Counseling & Support

BEREAVEMENT

No pain is greater than the grief resulting from the loss of a loved one.

Acknowledging and embracing this reality, the Temple has a bereavement ministry. Certified counselors are available for those who have experienced grief and loss and there are two meetings each month for ones who are grieving and counselors/volunteers who have a heartfelt concern. A special session, “Preparing for the Holidays” is offered each year during the Advent/Christmas season.

A Non-Profit, 501c 3 entity
The Chicago Loop Chapter is a non-profit, 501c 3, affiliate of the national Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, headquartered in Chicago, IL.

Facilitators
Facilitators have received training as a peer specialist or as a DBSA facilitator. Facilitators do not give medical advice and are not therapists. They have lived experience with depression or bipolar disorder and live by their individual positive wellness plan.

Support Groups
This is a place where you find that you are not alone and that you can receive encouragement from others. The focus in on “I can” not “I can’t.” Each session has an opening segment with introductions, followed by a brief education piece, discussion, and a closing segment. All conversation is from the “I” voice, meaning we speak from our own experience and respond in the same way. Confidentiality is essential. This a non-judgmental time.

Your Participation – KEEP COMING BACK!

This support group is what you make of it. Ask questions and share about your week. You may pass or just listen at any time. You have taken a courageous step in coming to this group for the first, second, or third time and more. Your help is welcome with the set up, providing refreshments, and putting supplies away.

You are not alone. We’ve been there. We can help.
