A festive Christmas program featuring music for organ and brass, with the Venia Brass Quintet as our guest performers, will be presented on Sunday afternoon, December 10, at 2 p.m., and we encourage you, your families, and your friends to attend this program of holiday favorites by Tchaikovsky, Anderson, Gabrielli, Adam, Gruber, Karg-Elert, Praetorius, among others. The audience will also be invited to sing along on some Christmas carols!
This concert is the first in a series of performances that are dedicated to highlighting the organ at First Methodist Church and the urgent need to completely restore the instrument to ensure its viability for service to our church and city for the next century. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the organ fund.
Dedicated in 1924, along with the Chicago Temple Building, E. M. Skinner’s Opus 414 comprises more than five thousand pipes in six divisions that are distributed over four manuals and pedal. The organ has served the congregation faithfully for 93 years and still retains some of the most distinctive and beautiful pipes for which the Skinner Organ Company of Boston was known and revered.
So, bring your jingle bells and settle in to enjoy some old and new sounds that are certain to warm your heart and inspire your soul.
