General Conference 2019 Information Table – 2/17/19

February 23 – 26, 2019 will be a defining moment for the United Methodist Church, as the delegates meet to pray, discuss and vote on the 78 petitions that will determine how the church will address the treatment of our LGBTQ sisters and brothers in our church. At the Chicago Temple, we have been discussing the work of the Commission on the Way Forward (CoWF), the Council of Bishops’ recommendations, the Judicial Council’s rulings and the various plans that have been submitted to the General Conference. Delegates will be voting and a plan will be adopted, but which plans do we at the Temple support?

On Sunday February 17, the Reconciling Ministries Task Force will have a table on the 2nd floor for you to get names of the NIC delegates, the schedule for the Day of Prayer, a comparison of the 4 major Plans and other information. If you want to read the commentaries and viewpoints from the church leaders, as well as links to all the information about GC19, check out the United Methodist News Service https://www.umnews.org/ If you have questions, please contact Rev. Wendy wendy@chicagotemple.org or Peg Isaacson margisaac17@gmail.com .

Please pray for God’s loving spirit to touch the hearts and minds of the delegates and for the UMC to be the kingdom of love, compassion and inclusiveness on earth.
