Homecoming Chair Shares Thanks, Record Numbers
Chair Rita Barksdale and the entire Homecoming Committee extend their congratulations and gratitude to everyone involved in last Sunday’s Homecoming 2018, which was a great success.
“Homecoming is a new beginning and the Ministry Expo is an opportunity to engage to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through serving,” explains Rita.
The Ministry Expo, which was conducted after each service, had a Summer BBQ theme and served up hamburgers, hot dogs, and baked beans to attendees as they made their way to the tables lining the walls of the Second Floor James Parlor and Dixon Chapel.
Over one hundred congregants and their guests had the chance to browse displays, collect information and speak with members of the ministries represented.
Sixty-one attendees signed up to get involved with church activities, often signing up for several different ministries. This year’s record for registrations by a single person was seven.
Overall, Homecoming 2018 hosted 26 displays and collected a total of 87 registrations, surpassing 2017’s total for both.
Thanks go out to the congregants and their guests who made Homecoming such a vibrant event as well as the ministry leaders who devoted their time and enthusiasm to share information and opportunities with attendees. Thanks also to the many volunteers who pitched in to help in ways both small and large and made Homecoming truly a community effort.
Responsible for one of the most popular elements of the day were Jim Williams and Bob Green who procured the food and Mabel Guzman and Christina Schuler who prepared it. Liz Lyle kept the drinks and popcorn coming. Thanks to all of them.
Special thanks go to the Homecoming Committee, whose planning, creativity and hard work helped Homecoming 2018 come into being: Rita Barksdale, Jonni Miklos, Aimee Hilliard, Akin Seigmund Walter-Johnson, Angie Renick, and Zoa Norman.
